Due to the efforts of the implementing agency M/s Bozargaon Handicrafts Producer Company Limited initiated under the 1 year long project, the artisans became empowered technically, financially as well as socially. Some of the specific successes of the initiative are as follows:-
- Opportunity to work collectively: Before the project was implemented, the artisans worked individually and hence lacked in many fronts. The project provided them an opportunity to form groups and thus work collectively. This greatly helped them in overcoming the existing individual lacunae's in them. Their craft and business benefitted from such group based effort finally resulting in better prospects for them.
- Enhancement of income: Before the project, the artisans earned meagerly as they had to do everything related to their craft and trade on individual basis. However, the project which gave them opportunity to work collectively resulted in better production and management of processes which saved time, effort and energy for them and also brought better income.
- Improvement of quality of craft products: Due to the design inputs, technological training and constant guidance from designers and other professional engaged by the IA from time to time, the quality of crafts products produced by artisans developed considerably and this resulted in better market prospects for them reducing existing market competition to a great extent.
- Continuous livelihood option: The skills gained under the project did not remain confined to the training period alone. Having been trained in design, technique, and market linkage, the artisans were able to continue practicing and building on these skills well after the project concluded, turning what began as short-term training into a lasting, dependable source of livelihood for their households.
- Social security: Working collectively also gave the artisans a sense of social security that was earlier missing. Being part of a group meant shared support during difficulties, collective bargaining strength while dealing with buyers and markets, and a stronger community identity — reducing the vulnerability that came with working in isolation.
- Opportunity to understand crafts from a broader perspective: Exposure to design inputs, new techniques, and guidance from professionals helped the artisans move beyond their traditional, localized way of working. They gained a wider understanding of their craft — including market trends, quality standards, and diverse applications of their skills — which broadened their outlook and opened up new possibilities beyond what they had previously known.
